Bones In Your Feet
Amazingly your foot accounts as 25% of the bodies bones, so that means your feet holds 1 quarter of all the bones in your body. Your feet have 26 bones, 33 joints, more then 100 tendons, muscles and ligaments then a huge 250,000 sweat glands.
FORE FOOT
The bones in your feet are set up like this in the fore foot there are five toes with 2 bones in the big toe and 3 bones in the other little toes, they are called phalanges (Big toe not three bones). Phalanges are three bones, the top one is called the Distal the second one is called the Middle and then the third Phalange before the metatarsals is the Proximal there are also five longer bones called the Metatarsal bones connecting the Phalanges to the Mid Foot.
MID FOOT
The Mid Foot is home to the pyramid like shape of bones creating the arch in your foot. In the pyramid there are bones called the cuneiform bone, cuboid bone and navicular bone. The Big toe’s Metatarsal bone connects to the Medial cuneiform bone the second toe’s metatarsal bone connects to the Intermediate Cuneiform, the third connects to the Lateral cuneiform, the fourth toe’s metatarsal bone connects to the Cuboid bone and the fifth metatarsal bone is half attached to the cuboid bone as-well. They are the bones from the fore foot to the mid foot.
HIND FOOT
Now for the Hind foot otherwise known as the heel and ankle. First there is the Talus bone which supports the leg bones. The Leg bone on the inner side of the foot is called the Tibia and the leg bone on the outer side of foot is called the Fibula. The Talus bone forms the Ankle. The last bone is the Calcaneus which is the Heel bone, The Heel Bone otherwise known as the Calcaneus is the largest bone in the foot. All of the Muscles, Ligaments and Tendons run along the bottom of the foot allowing complex movement needed for moving and balance.
